The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, requires expertise for their ongoing oil sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
The Technical Writing Assistant is responsible for providing superior writing, editing and formatting services for all projects within projects. The Technical Writing Assistant will review documentation looking for errors, compliance with format guidelines, and consistency and assist with the creation of project templates and logs. The primary duties will consist of proof reading; however, any of a wide range of tasks from challenging to menial may be required of this position and the successful candidate must be comfortable working with lengthy documents and repetitive proof reading tasks. The Technical Writing Assistant must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
The Technical Writing Assistant is also responsible for providing back-up for the Lead Technical Writer for weekly reporting duties.

• Assist Lead Technical Writer to compile the Initial Development weekly letter
• Provide Initial Development weekly highlights to technical group for site updates
• Assist Lead Technical Writer to compile Initial Development monthly stewardship reports
• Organize Initial Development monthly cost and schedule variance review meetings
• Coordinate the printing of large and mini copies of contracts for projects with the contracts group and Maranda Reprographics
• Edit technical documents prior to signoff so as to ensure clarity, consistency with style and terminology, and organization while complying to writing standards
• Assist in the creation of different types of user documentation (templates, how-to guides, quick references, quick cards, logs or cheat sheets)
• Provide unique solutions to process and other documentation issues

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• proficient in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
• superior command of English language both written and oral
• strong organizational, time management and communication skills
• ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
• detail-oriented
• knowledge of various engineering technical terminology
• ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships
• creative thinking
• intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional
• 3-5 years of closely related professional experience on major projects
• technical diploma or degree preferred
