The Company:
Our client is a global producer of oil and gas

The Role:
LCI was contracted by ESSO Highlands Limited (EHL), an affiliate of ExxonMobil, to train Papua New Guinean (PNG) Nationals as process operation, electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation technicians. The training cycle for the trainees is up to 30-months.

The first 18 months for Intake 1 was conducted at the PNG-LNG Training Center (Foundation and Basic Skills Components – BST) in Port Moresby, PNG, and the final 12-months (January to December 2012) will be conducted in Cape Breton, at the Cape Breton University & Nova Scotia Community College campuses.

The current plan is for 2 Intakes of trainees, each consisting of up to 76 Papua New Guinean Nationals.

Intake 2 has recently been recruited and has commenced a compressed Foundation and Basic Skills Program (12 months) in January 2012.

Intake 1, currently comprised of 65 Trainees commenced training at LCI in January 2012 and will finish their studies in December 2012.

The incumbent is responsible for the safety, health and overall well-being of the trainees, while in Canada and will be supported by the Cape Breton PNG-LNG Training Center which consists of a Trainee Counsellor (part-time); 2 Student Liaison Officers (EFT1.5); a Program Coordinator and Office Assistants; as well as a team of instructors for each component of the Advanced Skills Training (AST) program. The incumbent will also work closely with the academic leads for or operations and maintenance trades.


The role of ExxonMobil Trainee Manager is to provide behavioral oversight of the trainees in Canada and to plan, execute, and finalize all activities associated with the safety, health and well-being of the trainees. This includes working closely with the Nova Scotia and PNG based team members, in order to ensure optimum trainee behavior, cultural experiences, security, safety, health and satisfaction.


The Trainee Manager reports administratively and functionally to the EHL Training & National Workforce Development Manager.
