The Company:
A global group of energy and petrochemicals companies with over 80,000 employees in more than 70 countries and territories. From the world's largest integrated, export oriented oil and gas projects to helping to meet Worlds global energy demand in a responsible and sustainable way - their expertise can be witnessed on any one of their major projects worldwide.

The Role:
"Floating LNG is a technology First. It is an important development for Project and the LNG industry as it reduces both the project costs and environmental footprint, thereby providing the potential to unlock stranded offshore gas reserves. It precludes the need for long distance pipelines and extensive onshore infrastructure. There are currently no FLNG facilities deployed anywhere in the world.

The broad operating parameters of the design mean it can be redeployed. The standardised “design one, build many” approach allows material repeatability gains to be captured during design and construction phases.

In July 2009, Shell awarded a consortium of Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries the contract for the design, construction and installation of multiple FLNG facilities over a period of up to 15 years, based upon Shell’s proprietary design.

The FLNG facility itself will be approximately 480m long and 75m wide, and would be moored at the gas field location during the period of production. It would stay on station permanently during the operations phase, even during cyclones, and has been designed to withstand a 1 in 10,000-year weather event.

The first of these facilities will be deployed at the FLNG Project in the remote Browse Basin, 475km north-northeast of Broome, Western Australia. The Prelude project is currently in the EXECUTE phase with the FLNG team located in Technip offices in Paris and Kuala Lumpur as well as the Samsung shipyard yard in Geoje where the FLNG facility will be built. The FLNG turret and mooring is based in Monaco while the Subsea team is based in Kuala Lumpur and the Wells team based in Perth. FLNG facility start-up is planned for 2016.
