The Company:
Our client in one for the biggest LNG producer in the world.

The Role:
I. Job Purpose & Scope:

The purpose of the position is to provide expert services and technical assistance to internal users, in relation to welding and joining, metallurgy and non-destructive examination. The person will be responsible for reviewing engineering documentation (such as material specifications, welding technology, weld design and fabrication procedures). The person will also be responsible for approval of welding procedures and providing a technical input on materials selection for projects, operating plant and equipment. Advice on metallurgical failure analyses of failed components of process plant and equipment will also be required. This shall also include preparation of appropriate recommendations on either repair, replacement or reduced operational use.

III. Main Duties/Accountabilities:

a. Approves welding procedures and provides technical input on material selection and specification for new capital projects, existing operating plant and equipment in the Company’s operational areas. Renders advice to project engineers on metallurgical problems associated with wet and sour gas service and other technical problems.

b. Monitors the quality control of all welding work on process plants, pipelines and other field/terminal facilities. Ensures all work is carried out in accordance with approved welding procedures, quality control plans and internationally recognized design and fabrication standards, codes and practices. Includes specifying welding procedures and levels of quality control for welding and fabrication work. Reviews and interprets metallurgical tests. Provides technical advice and guidance on courses of action to be taken in the light of information extracted from various inspections and reports.

c. Formulates, updates and maintains material engineering standards for process plant, equipment, pipelines and regularly reviews these standards to ensure conformance to international codes and practice. Liaises with service companies and organizations on aspects of special material procurement, reviews steel mill manufacturing procedures to ensure material specification and quality complies with OPD standards. Participates in Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazops) as a member of a team, advising on specification and performance of materials for process operational use.

d. Advises on methods, and carries out metallurgical failure analyses of failed components. Provides a technical service to engineering and maintenance. Carries out welding tests in accordance with welding procedures and Quality Control (QC) plans. Specifies and advises on application of low temperature materials in accordance with approved international standards.

e. Ability to select suitable filler metals to be applied to joints in accordance with good engineering practice.
Carries out mechanical inspections of process plant during outages and major shutdowns, reviews and comments on underwater repair procedures and work. Participates with supervisor in coordinating and controlling the activities of contracted plant and equipment inspectors. Monitors the condition of process plant and equipment suffering material cracking. Specifies on-line inspection methods for piping systems and prepares technical reports on inspection work of all pressure containing plant and equipment. Raises recommendations to either repair, replace welds/sections or on the level of continued operational use.

f. Participates in the ongoing training and development of assigned trainee employees. Includes assessing employees training and development needs, directing the preparation of structured development/familiarization programs. Monitors and reports on employees progress, as required.

g. Familiarity with Company health, safety and environmental policy, procedures, regulations and objectives will be required. Implementation of these requirements shall be monitored in addition to normal duties..

h. Carries out other similar or related duties such as verifying welding procedures to ensure welding joints comply with approved standards and codes; scrutinizing proposed modification project work to ensure full and proper consideration for metallurgical and welding technical requirements; liaising with steel mill and forging personnel, engineers and metallurgists to keep abreast of technical development in materials manufacture and performance.

i. Participates in technical bid evaluation of Bidders of major projects with respect to his discipline of materials and welding.

j. Custodian of Company standards in materials and welding. Provides technical clarification and disposition on technical deviations in materials and welding.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering.
• IIW/ EWF qualified Welding Engineer.
• ASNT/ PCN and CSWIP qualifications.
• Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a similar role, working in the Oil & Gas industry.
• Experience working for Client/ Consultant.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Ability to work as part of a team and have good interpersonal skills.
