The Company:
A Major international oil and gas operator

The Role:
We are currently looking for an experienced Well Planning Lead for our Houston location as part of our shale resource play. The client has reached a definitive agreement to purchase assets in the core of the shale formation in Texas in a transaction valued at $3.5 billion. With these assets, the client has the potential to book up to 100 million boe of proved reserves by the end of 2011. In addition, production is expected to increase to approximately 80,000 net boe per day by 2016 with the expectation to drill 250 – 300 wells per year over the next five to eight years. This acquisition establishes client’s position in the highest value oil and condensate core area of the shale.

Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for well planning and geosteering tasks during drilling of wells on clients acreage in the shale play in South Texas. This position will report to the Well Planning Supervisor for the shale Asset Team and will be located in Houston.

Responsibilities:
Direct the efforts of the staff on the Well Planning team
Mentor and develop less experienced staff
Ensure the technical quality of the team work products
Generate geologic prognoses for each new well.
Work with development team to implement data gathering programs. Coordinate efforts of vendors for logging, coring, mud logging. Be onsite for logging and coring operations as necessary.
Monitor wells during drilling utilizing geosteering to ensure that well paths are kept within acceptable tolerances. Work with development staff and drilling to make course corrections in a timely manner to minimize well cost.
Ensure well data is provided to partners as required on a timely basis.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree: Bachelors required, Masters preferred for geoscience candidates
Major Discipline: Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Geology or Geophysics
Years Experience Required: Minimum 7 years total industry experience
Travel Required: up to 25%
Computer Proficiencies: Intermediate PC skills are required in Microsoft desktop suites. Experience with Geosteering Tools (Boresite), Geographix, GIS, Landmark, and onshore data bank software suites are preferred.
