The Role:
The Well Operations Specialist – Drilling Projects reports to Drilling Engineering Team Leader Projects. Wellbore stability and in particular the “Green Shale’s” has historically and continues to be extremely problematic resulting in significant hole problems and ultimately lost time and considerable cost. Interfacing and working with multi-discipline teams and engineers the specific role is to focus on the “Green Shale” issue and provide engineering and operational recommendations to mitigate against the problem for future wells.

• Interface with Engineering, Subsurface and Operations Teams.
• Collate relevant information from engineering and operations disciplines.
• Coordinate data analysis from previous wells.
• Extract relevant information from extended reach drilling experiences.
• Identify causal factors for Green Shale instability including – Trajectory, Inclination, Bedding Plains, Dip Angle, Mud Temperature, Mud Weights, Low Energy Drilling and Reaming, Optimal Casing Points.
• Determine optimal Rotary Steerable system and Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) design.
• Collate and provide recommendations to engineering and drilling teams.
• Provide coaching to Drilling Engineers, Challenge Engineers and Well Site Leaders.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Valid Well Control for Subsea and Surface Supervisory Level to Industry Accreditation for example: International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), International Well Control Forum (IWCF) WellCap.
• Minimum of 20 years Drilling Operations experience in well planning/design, drilling project management and drilling site supervision.
• Experience in Well Placement, Directional Drilling Planning, Bottom Hole Assembly Design, Extended Reach Drilling, Narrow Margin Fracture/Pore Pressure, High Pressure/Temperature, Drilling Fluids and Cementing.
• Experience of managing Hole and Wellbore Stability problems
• Drilling Operations experience with Major International Oil Company and or National Oil Company
• Minimum Upper Immediate English Proficiency for Reading, Writing and Speaking

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Technical subject
• Demonstrable capabilities of developing, training and coaching less experienced drilling engineers
• Implementation of knowledge management plans, Technical Limit, capturing lessons learnt and integration into future drilling design programmes and procedures.
• Proven track record as strong team player and working with multidiscipline teams
• Computer literacy in Microsoft applications and morning reporting/database systems (i.e. Open-Wells)
