The Company:
Our client is one of the majors with an R&D office based in the Netherlands.

The Role:
The Wells research department in The Netherlands focuses on the development of novel and cost-effective technologies for the construction, completion and remediation of oil and gas wells.
The research is conducted by several teams and one of these, the Expandables Team concentrates on the development of solid expandable tubular systems and zonal isolation technologies with the ultimate goal to realize a Mono-Diameter Well concept.
Key aspects of the research are the modelling of the metal forming process of pipe connection expansion in support of pipe development/selection and the conceptual design/development of expansion tools to realize these processes in an oil/gas well environment.
Experimental research plays a key role as well in the development and validation of new concepts. For this purpose a state-of-the-art laboratory is available, which enables small scale as well as full-scale pipe expansion tests to be conducted under simulated well bore conditions. In addition, a full-scale drilling rig is available on the site to perform the Proof of Concept testing prior to deployment in the field.
The R&D of the Expandables Team is pursued in close co-operation with the client's Global Expandables Implementation team and Operating Units.
In the Expandables team we are looking for a research engineer, who will contribute to the modelling and conceptual design of expandable systems pursued by the team.

Position accountabilities
As Research Engineer in the Expandables Team you will be accountable for:
- Development of tool design and process concepts for Expandable Systems
- Design of experimental work in the area of validation and qualification of Expandable tools and systems and expansion processes.
- Setting-up and management of projects with expert third parties in the area of activity (e.g.: contractors for Finite Element Analysis; design/manufacturing companies).
- Liaison with other team members, the Global Expandables Implementation Team and third parties in the area of activity.

Position dimensions
- Development of understanding of phenomena governing the formability of pipes typical for expansion processes
- Development of a predictive capability for the assessment of pipe formability based on mechanical material property data.
- Design/modelling support to the development of new pipe expansion concepts
- Design/planning and liaison with team members on the experimental research programmes
- Work with expert third parties in support of the development of the above
- Liaise with other stakeholders of the R&D projects on requirements, progress and deliverables
- Reporting to the team Leader of the Expandables Team

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Ms.C or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent

Following qualifications are desired:
- Specialisation in applied mechanics and/or plasticity and/or modelling of metal forming processes
- Experience with application of Finite Element Analysis techniques (e.g ABAQUS)
