The Role:
The Wellsite geologist will be responsible for supporting the subsurface exploration team in the preparation (pre-spud), execution (drilling) and final report (post–drill) activities relevant to the exploration activities in Australia’s NWS.
The activity is envisaged to last for a fixed term of 6 months (with option to extend for a further 3 months), of which time will be split between working onshore (office based activities) and offshore (semi-sub and/or DP) rig. Cumulative offshore time anticipated to be 3-4 months

Responsibilities will include (but not restricted to) co-preparation of the mudlog & data acquisition programs with the intent to own and execute the same whilst working offshore. The above will include detailed compilation and cataloging of the offset well’s cuttings to facilitate lithology description relative to offset wells and improve accuracy in picking of formation tops during the well execution activity, in conjunction with LWD data in real-time.

The successful applicant will report directly to the Exploration Area Lead within the subsurface team whilst in the office and, indirectly to the DSV when offshore.
He/She will be responsible for promoting the safety culture of the operator at all times and actively intervene in unsafe situations in order to ensure the safety of those whom he/she works and the successful delivery of the well.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Requires minimum of 10 years demonstrable experience in a Wellsite Geology discipline or Sr. Mudlog experience role within the Northwest shelf, supporting oil gas exploration well execution. Familiar with most of subsurface discipline's concepts, practices, and procedures, the successful applicant will rely on his/her extensive experience, self motivation and subsurface knowledge to plan and deliver agreed goals, perform a variety of complicated tasks while effectively managing interfaces across multiple disciplines. Lead and direct the work of others and demonstrate breadth in knowledge and application of skills to different project phases with a working knowledge / experience in offshore drilling/evaluation in real-time. Resolves highly complex technical issues and provides technical assurance in areas of discipline expertise. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
