With the forthcoming IR35 reform due to take effect in April 2020 Fircroft is proactively engaging with clients and contractors on the best solutions and options available. With the reform raising multiple questions and concerns for contractors and clients, Fircroft Aberdeen took the opportunity to run a Contractor Engagement Session in collaboration with Nicole Slowey, Operations Director at QDOS.

The session gave an overview of the current IR35 legislation and dealt with some myths that are circulating regarding IR35.

IR35 Myths:

  • Operating to set working hours means you are inside IR35.

  • Using client equipment means you are inside IR35.

  • Using client parking spaces means you are inside IR35.

  • Working for a client for 2 years or more means you are inside IR35.

  • Having ‘Manager’ in your title means you are inside IR35.
  • With IR35 due to take effect in April 2020 Fircroft Aberdeen took the opportunity to run a Contractor Engagement Session in collaboration with QDOS
Nicole went on to explain what will happen in April 2020 and the ways this was dealt with in the public sector in 2017. There are many options available to dealing with IR35 reform and with 18 years’ experience in IR35 legislation QDOS gave a well-rounded plan based on their own experiences with HMRC and IR35 investigations.

Held at Fircroft Aberdeen’s new offices, Marischal Square, the engagement session was attended by over 60 contractors with speakers providing an insight and run-through of the reform and offering advice on what contractors can do now to prepare for the reform coming into effect.

Feedback from the event was extremely positive and Fircroft Aberdeen will be hosting follow-up events as the reform approaches.
